How do you join the October playtest?
Open the official Steam store page and look for Sublustrum Playtest. Request access there, then follow the access and installation state shown by Steam for your account. The publisher’s announcement names October 12–25, 2026 as the public testing window. It does not turn the test into a permanently available demo or promise instant admission for every account.
Check the published PC requirements before installing. If you arrived from an older Fall 2026 release story, the release-date page explains the current Q1 2027 Steam window. The October access window and the full game’s launch window describe different things.

What does Chapter One include?
The public test offers Chapter One of the new first-person adventure. The story starts with a missing brother’s experiment, and sound helps you interpret its machines and unfamiliar spaces. Visual exploration matters as well: this is not a game played entirely through audio.
Our current coverage is deliberately problem-based. It does not claim to document every pickup, every transition or the final activation sequence. Start with the puzzle help index and open only the problem you are facing:
- Instrument sliders or chamber tuning: Piano puzzle contains a dated community-reported setting and explains how its dot positions are counted.
- One cooling wheel still missing: Fourth valve location covers the corrected apartment location and the scanner step reported by players.
- All valves found, but the machine does not work: Cooling puzzle help explains the evidence available and why an often-repeated numerical guess is not a reliable solution.
These pages disclose which details come from player reports. We have not independently completed a current-build playthrough, so a reported answer is not presented as hands-on verification.
How can you preserve the puzzle experience?
Use the smallest hint that answers your question. Finding an overlooked object and reading a complete combination are different levels of spoiler. The piano and missing-valve pages contain direct answers. Open them only when you want the solution or item location.
Keep your own notes on the order of sounds and the position of each control. When a machine has several similar parts, record which direction you are reading them from. This is general puzzle-solving advice, not a hidden rule or an unannounced control binding. Use the controls and options that your installed build actually displays.

What should you record when a hint does not work?
Separate a missing item, an unresponsive interaction and a combination that produces the wrong result. A useful bug or help report includes the room, the visible control state, the test/build information shown by Steam, and what happened after the attempted action. A short current recording is stronger evidence than a remembered answer from a different version.
Use the game’s Steam discussions for playtest feedback. Do not post account credentials or private diagnostic data with a screenshot. Site corrections can be sent through our contact page.

Which edition does this guide cover?
This page covers the 2026 public playtest of the reimagining. The 2008 Outcry comparison explains why an old point-and-click recording should not be used as proof of a new puzzle solution. All facts on this page were checked against the linked sources on October 13, 2026. If the test ends or the publisher changes its schedule, the access instructions will need updating.
