Outcry (2008) and Sublustrum: Original vs the New Game

Understand how Outcry, the 2008 Sublustrum original, differs from the upcoming 3D reimagining and why old walkthroughs cannot prove new puzzle answers.

FAQ

Are Outcry and Sublustrum related?
Yes. The developers describe the new Sublustrum as a reimagining of their 2008 original, also known as Outcry.
Is the new Sublustrum just a remaster?
The official description calls it a full reimagining, rebuilt in freely explorable 3D. The developer FAQ also describes changes to puzzles, rather than only higher-resolution graphics.
Can an Outcry walkthrough solve the new playtest?
It may provide context, but it is not proof of current puzzle answers. Check the edition and validate the specific action or setting in the remake.

Why do searches show both Outcry and Sublustrum?

The 2008 original is also known as Outcry. The upcoming Sublustrum returns to that earlier adventure, but is a reimagining rather than an unchanged re-release. The official Steam description establishes the connection, and the developer’s FAQ in the official news feed discusses what has changed.

This shared identity makes search results unusually easy to misread. A walkthrough uploaded many years ago can be relevant to the original without being useful for the current test. Publication age is a clue, but the actual edition and interface are what matter.

The game preserves its sound-focused identity, but a shared concept does not make every implementation identical. A familiar machine can have changed clue placement, interaction requirements or puzzle details. That is why we do not relabel an original recording as a “2026 walkthrough.”

For the current schedule and platform evidence use the release-date page. For the new executable’s hardware demands use system requirements. The year in the edition matters for both decisions.

How can you identify the version in a video?

Look for the creator’s stated edition, the footage’s interface and movement, and any test or build label. A 2008 or Outcry recording belongs in the original-game category unless it explicitly demonstrates the new release. A search result containing “Sublustrum” by itself cannot settle the question.

If a creator shows a successful action in the original, take it as evidence for that original. To use it as advice for the remake, someone needs to reproduce the relevant step or record its successful result in the current build. Recognizable art or a similar puzzle name is not enough.

Where should a current playtest player start?

Use the Chapter One access and help guide, then the problem-based puzzle index. Those pages identify their October 2026 context and distinguish official information from community reports. The older game does not supply a shortcut around that source checking.

If you came here specifically for a complete Outcry walkthrough, this page is an edition comparison, not a claim that we have documented the original’s full progression. It helps you choose the correct material before following a solution for the wrong game.

This comparison was checked on October 13, 2026 against the official store and news material. New content will stay attached to its edition rather than silently replacing historical advice with current-test claims.
